Arecacatechu, commonly known as supari, consists of dried ripe nuts that came under Arecaceae family, which is cultivated in the tropical region India and Southeast Asia. It a prevalent traditional herbal medicine chewed to separate collected fluid alimentary canal for killing worms. Areca catechu seed contains alkaloids (arecoline, arecaine, arecaidine, guvacoline, guvacine, choline), tannin, gallic acid, gum, various minerals such copper, calcium, phosphorus, iron. The chemical constituents this plant have been used antidiabetic, stomatitis, bleeding gums, gingivitis, conjunctivitis, glaucoma, leucorrhoea, urinary disorders, anorexia, diarrhea, blood pressure regulating activity, antiulcerogenic, antioxidant anticonvulsant central nervous system stimulant antifertility, oxytocic antiviral anthelmintic, foul breath. showed dose-dependent toxicity profile, research has done regarding its safety analysis it would be considered safe when administered prescribed dose. purpose present paper make available an up-to-date review on ethnic, description, morphology, phytochemistry, pharmacological toxicological profile plant. Furthermore, possible advances, trends, perspective forthcoming also conversed.
